The Central Community Foundation continued its 20 Years of Impact celebration by awarding two $500 grants through a social media contest that highlighted local nonprofits selected by Central Rural Electric Cooperative members.
The contest invited members to nominate deserving nonprofits within Central’s service area. After reviewing the nominations, the foundation’s board of directors, made up of volunteer members, selected five organizations to advance to a public voting round on Central’s Facebook page.
The contest generated strong community engagement, with more than 500 likes cast on the nonprofit graphics. The winners of the contest were Payne County Youth Services and the Oklahoma Youth Hunting Program, who both received the most support and were each awarded a $500 grant to continue their work in the communities.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Central Community Foundation has invested more than $1.4 million in local projects, organizations and individuals within Central’s 7-county service area.
Funded through generous donations from members participating in Operation Round Up, where members have the option to round up their bill to the nearest dollar. The Central Community Foundation provides grants that support health care, disaster relief, education, community purpose and personal need.
This year marks the foundation’s 20th anniversary, celebrating 20 years of impact. The social media contest was one of several initiatives planned throughout the anniversary year to recognize the foundation’s legacy of service.
